Diabetes
Diabetes is a condition in which the body cannot properly regulate the production and use of insulin – a critical substance that allows your body to convert sugar into energy. In Type 1 diabetes, a patient’s pancreas is unable to make enough insulin. This type of the disease is usually discovered prior to adulthood and may be tied to genetic factors or a viral infection. In Type 2 diabetes, a patient’s body isn’t able to produce or metabolize enough insulin. While being overweight can contribute to this type of the disease in both kids and adults, it also occurs in people who are of normal weight and can run in families. Symptoms of both types of the disease may include weight loss, blurry vision, being very thirsty and needing to urinate many times per day. Your physician can help you manage your diabetes with lifestyle and dietary modifications, medications including insulin injections and continuous glucose monitoring.
