High Definition Laryngoscopy
A laryngoscopy is an examination of the vocal cords using an endoscope that is introduced through the nose and throat. A high definition laryngoscopy uses a distal chip flexible nasendoscope with xenon illumination to view the nasal passage, pharynx and larynx. This visual aid can help your doctor diagnose conditions such as laryngopharyngeal reflux and lesions. Before the procedure, you will have local anesthesia in your nose to make the nasendoscopy insertion more comfortable. The scope is then inserted into your nose and travels down your throat. The high definition laryngoscopy allows your physician to detect any abnormalities or areas of concern. Your doctor may ask you to make certain noises with your throat in order to see how everything is working. This test is fairly quick and painless. Patients are able to return to regular activities immediately.
