Leg Deformities
Leg deformities can be congenital (from birth) or acquired through injuries that impact the growth plates while a child’s bones are still developing. They can also occur due to a broken bone or joint that has healed improperly or due to weakness in the stabilizing ligaments of the leg. Many such leg disorders can be treated with conservative, nonsurgical methods ranging from bracing to orthotics and physical therapy. However, when pain or dysfunction reach the point that surgical intervention is considered, a variety of procedures may be employed. These may include bone stabilization measures via instrumentation such as metal plates and screws, ligament repair or fusion of damaged joints.
