Minimally Invasive Skull Base Surgery

Minimally invasive skull base surgery may be employed to remove malignant and nonmalignant growths from the base of the skull, underside of the brain or top of the spinal column. Such growths are approached via an endoscopic approach, where instruments are introduced through the nose or mouth or through a tiny incision right above the eyebrow. While not all patients will be appropriate candidates for the minimally invasive approach, those who are can avoid the need for an external incision directly into the skull. Conditions that may be addressed via minimally invasive skull surgery include pituitary tumors, bone tumors called chordomas, congenital cysts, arteriovenous malformations, cerebral aneurysms, trigeminal neuralgias and more.
