Pediatric Neuropsychology

Pediatric neuropsychologists are licensed psychologists with advanced knowledge of how the development of children’s brains can effect learning skills, behaviors, language skills, cognitive ability and more. A primary care physician may refer a child for a neuropsychology exam in cases of a brain injury or defect, developmental problem, learning and socialization issues, inappropriate behaviors or uncontrollable emotions. During such an exam, the physician will closely evaluate the child’s language, learning and organization skills; general intelligence; visual-spatial skills; motor coordination; ability to concentrate, social capabilities and more. In turn, this exam will facilitate the creation of an individual profile that identifies the child’s relative strengths and weaknesses in comparison to other children his or her age.
