Perineal Hernia Repair
A perineal hernia is a hernia that involves the pelvic floor. This kind of hernia can develop following traumatic injury or as a complication from major pelvic surgery in humans. When pain, intestinal obstruction or other uncomfortable symptoms are generated by this occurrence, surgical intervention is required. Depending on the patient’s condition and surgeon’s recommendation, perineal hernias may be repaired via transabdominal, transperineal, combined abdominoperineal or laparoscopic approach. The operation typically involves removing the hernia sac and reinforcing the pelvic floor using a synthetic mesh material. That said, new methods for securing the repair are being explored to improve its strength and reduce its possibility of failing.
