Spasticity

Our neurologists and neurosurgeons provide care for patients with spasticity, which is a condition defined by abnormal movement across one or more joints that occurs due to atypical nerve signals being transmitted to surrounding muscles. Spasticity may arise as the result of a brain or spinal cord injury, and the primary treatment method is physical and occupational therapy. Special medications such as Baclofen and Zanaflex may also be prescribed, with the possibility of surgical management being raised when the before-mentioned treatments are unsuccessful.
