Structured and therapeutic activities are part of a comprehensive treatment plan for children with developmental and/or behavioral disorders. Whether your child has been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADD) attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), developmental delays, a learning disability, an autism spectrum disorder, anxiety or a mood disorder, introducing him or her to a program that includes specific cognitive and social exercises, relationship-building activities and recreation therapy can make a tremendous difference in their ability to function and feel good as they grow. Many children can benefit from structured play activities that are tailored to their specific needs with regard to problem-solving, sensorimotor deficits, dealing with a past traumatic event, and more. Through this treatment, kids are taught multiple “release” techniques for moving past aggressive and socially unacceptable feelings, and they learn constructive methods of dealing with everything from bullying to sibling rivalry and unfamiliar situations.
