TAMIS Minimally Invasive Surgery

TAMIS, short for Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery, is a relatively new advancement in colorectal surgery that was developed at AdventHealth, and only a handful of specialized medical centers worldwide can provide it as an option to patients with rectal tumors. Using a specially developed scope that is directed through the rectum to the location of the mass, surgeons can then remove the cancer via laparoscopic tools. This procedure involves no external incisions and is quicker, less painful and has been shown to be just as effective as traditional, “open” surgery to address certain rectal cancers.
