Menopause Management

Many women decide to seek medical treatment to help them manage difficult symptoms associated with menopause, which is the time of life in which a woman’s body naturally loses the ability to reproduce. Your doctor can prescribe a variety of treatment regimens including but not limited to hormone replacement therapy, prescription medications, natural therapies and certain lifestyle modifications. Symptoms such as “hot flashes,” mood changes, difficulty sleeping, vaginal dryness and night sweats can be significantly reduced through these methods. Women who have undergone a hysterectomy may be successfully treated with estrogen alone, but due to the risk of endometrial cancer, those who still have an intact uterus will require progestogen therapy as well to avoid overstimulating the cells within the uterus. Still other symptoms of menopause such as fatigue and loss of libido may be treated with testosterone therapy. Talk to your doctor about your individual symptoms and what treatment plans may be right for you.
