Group of Men during Ethiopia Mission Trip
You Can Make A Difference

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The Learning Village (TLV) is an education, health and micro-industry enterprise established in 1998 by a Seventh-day Adventist family shortly after the collapse of the communist regime in Ethiopia. Based on the faith and family history rooted in this community, its mission is to bring prosperity to the community through high-quality primary and secondary education, health care, lifestyle education, spiritual growth and economic development.

Originally serving a rural village on the outskirts of the capital city of Addis Ababa, it now serves a rapidly expanding urban population and large city infrastructure. Its mission remains the same as when it was founded, but its approach to education, health and economic prosperity is adapting to the transforming culture and needs of the surrounding community.

AdventHealth’s involvement began in 2008, when the President's Council donated funds to build a clinic in TLV. The Summit Clinic at TLV was established as an AdventHealth Orlando, formerly known as Florida Hospital Orlando, GM footprint project. The scope of the Footprint was expanded to include all aspects (education and micro industry) a few years later. TLV has been the site of multiple medical mission trips hosted at the Summit Clinic. The AdventHealth President's Council has donated funds in multiple years for the expansion of the school campus, operation of the clinic and expansion of health care services. Mission trips have included CREATION Life education, dental care, optical/eyeglasses and primary care.

At AdventHealth, formerly Florida Hospital, our Global Missions team proudly extends the healing ministry of Christ around the world.

Global Missions empowers volunteers to serve the international community where it is needed most. With compassionate care and mutual respect, we hope to permanently enhance the quality of life for those in need. Our volunteers get directly involved and actively engaged in the following activities:

  • Provide medical and surgical care to patients
  • Promote health education to communities
  • Conduct training programs for clinical staff
  • Deliver donated equipment and supplies
  • Raise funds for approved projects
  • Share process-improvement expertise
  • Support strategic-planning objectives
