Small pile of French fries on a white counter.

Appetizers and Sides King of Comfort Food

French fries are, without a doubt, a favorite with most people. Here is a simple recipe that you can tweak to suit yourselves. Some folks like them with seasoning salt or a sprinkling of garlic salt. The paprika adds flavor but also does a great job of “browning” in the absence of oil.

Prep Instructions

  • Yield: 6 (1 cup) servings
  • Prep Time: 10 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 30 minutes

Recipe Ingredients

  • Potatoes, as many as desired
  • Salt, to taste
  • Paprika (could also use smoked paprika)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Scrub, clean, dry, and cut potatoes into ½-inch fries—peel skins if desired. Put into a mixing bowl.
  3. Sprinkle with salt and paprika, stirring well to coat potatoes evenly.
  4. Place on parchment paper–lined cookie sheet that has been prepared with a light coating of food release spray. Separate pieces to keep them from sticking together.
  5. Bake approximately 20 minutes—time varies with size of potato slices.
