Wellness Meets the Arts

We believe incorporating the arts into your healing experience helps create a perfect balance in your wellness journey — improving your physical, mental and spiritual health. That's why we're focused on enriching our community with the intangible health benefits of the arts for everyone, at every age and stage in life.

The Art of Healing

At AdventHealth, we believe the arts open the door to whole-person healing, enhancing our health in body, mind and spirit. The arts have the powerful ability to:

  • Enable us to process difficult emotions during emergencies and challenging events
  • Help us develop social and emotional skills through arts education
  • Help us emotionally as we navigate illness or injury
  • Inspire us to seek holistic wellness
  • Motivate us during recovery
  • Release hormones that trigger sensations of pleasure and positive emotions

These are just a few of the reasons why we’re dedicated to helping our community feel whole through the arts.

AdventHealth’s Music Therapy Program

Music therapy uses music to help meet the medical, physical, emotional and cognitive needs of patients. Trained music therapists incorporate music into their treatment. And the evidence is clear: Music and whole-person healing go hand-in-hand. It connects us to others socially, uplifts us emotionally and helps us learn. It can calm us when we need peace and energize us to get moving. Above all, music can help keep us healthy and happy — in body, mind and spirit. You can heal with music therapy.

The board-certified music therapists use music interventions that are effective by research evidence, music therapy theory and clinical practice.

The Benefits of Music Therapy Services

Music therapy is the clinical use of music by a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC) to help each patient reach their goals. Some of the goals we work toward with our patient population for both children and adults include:

  • Decreasing symptoms of depression, isolation and anxiety
  • Eliminating or decreasing sedation for pediatric procedures
  • Improving functional communication
  • Improving neurological development
  • Increasing and promoting positive coping skills
  • Increasing a sense of control
  • Increasing quality of life
  • Increasing socialization
  • Normalizing the hospital environment
  • Pain reduction and management
  • Promote developmental milestones
  • Promoting motor rehabilitation and development
  • Providing emotional support and expression

The board-certified music therapists who work with your child use music interventions that are informed and shown effective by research evidence, music therapy theory and clinical practice. These therapeutic treatments include improvisation, songwriting, lyric analysis, song discussion, music-assisted relaxation and imagery, therapeutic instrumental music performance, developmental speech/language, and cognitive musical exercises.
