Facts and Figures
AdventHealth Gordon is a 69-bed hospital.
In 1935, Dr. Zebulon Vance Johnston's brother, Tom Johnston, came from North Carolina and constructed a three-story building in downtown Calhoun. They used the second and third floor as a small hospital.
Johnston-Hall Hospital served Gordon County until 1953, when a new county hospital was built on Pine Street.
In 1979, Community leaders decided they needed to build a new facility to accommodate the needs and standards set by the state. So, a $5 million bond issue to build the present hospital on Red Bud Road raised the funds.
In 1981, AdventHealth signed an agreement to manage Gordon Hospital.
AdventHealth Gordon was purchased by AdventHealth in 1994.
In 1999, a $4.1 million renovation project adding 8,200 additional square feet to the hospital was completed.
In 2000, a 37,000 square foot medical office building was completed.
In 2002, AdventHealth Gordon designed a comprehensive cancer care program, with medical and surgical oncology for the community.
In 2004, the hospital completed a three-phase expansion project. Adding 75,000 square feet of new space in the form of a new four-story tower and renovating an additional 36,000 square feet of existing space.
The hospital opened a new clinical decisions and progressive care unit (PCU) on the second floor of its four-story tower in 2005.
After nearly a year of construction, AdventHealth Gordon was pleased to open a new 17,700 square-foot emergency center in 2008.
In 2012, AdventHealth Gordon was pleased to open its newest addition, the AdventHealth Harris Radiation Therapy Center. The Center was made possible by a $1 million donation by the Clarence E. Harris Foundation.
On January 2, 2019, AdventHealth Gordon officially became AdventHealth Gordon, joining nearly 50 other AdventHealth facilities in a system-wide rebrand.
In 2020, AdventHealth Gordon completed a $24 million capital project to enhance its services offered to the community. The project includes the construction of the Edna Owens Breast Center, relocation and expansion of The Baby Place, expansion and renovation of the operating room and construction of a new cardiac catheterization lab.
