Celebrating the Life and Legacy of a Father

AdventHealth Hospice Care Central Florida would like to wish you and your family a happy Father’s Day. You are helping patients live their lives to the fullest, so they might make life’s final journey with a sense of comfort and dignity. You are also helping family members and loved ones find healing, compassion and purpose.

While our focus is always on providing world-class end-of-life care, we also provide support for the families who can feel left behind. We recognize that for some, Father’s Day can be a painful reminder.

Amy was a young mother of three children when her husband, Erik, was diagnosed with cancer. Erik lost his battle with cancer eight years later. The Horizon’s Bereavement Center was there for Amy and her children when they needed it the most.

“The Bereavement Center welcomed us with open arms. My kids had no grief counseling at their school and there was nowhere else to go to get the support we needed. To this day, we still keep in touch with our amazing counselor, Regina, and go back to see her whenever we need support.”

Horizon’s Bereavement Center, an extension of AdventHealth Hospice Care, provides hope and resources to families at no cost. In addition to counseling and emotional support, Amy’s children attended Camp Healing Hearts, a one-day camp provided by Horizon’s Bereavement Center to help kids who have lost a loved one. This camp is offered twice a year for children ages seven to 17 who have experienced loss and gives them a safe space to process the loss of their loved one.

“My kids attending Camp Healing Hearts twice. I really saw a change in them after meeting other children who had lost someone. All three of my children were different ages and in different stages of grief when Erik passed. At camp they were grouped with children their age, which was helpful for them. They made friends with other kids who experienced the death of a loved one and gained support from learning that they were not alone.”

Amy and Erik’s children can celebrate their dad’s life and legacy this Father’s Day because of the support they received. Would you consider helping other families in Central Florida access the resources they need after a loss?

Camp Healing Hearts is available at no cost to every child who needs it. This Father’s Day, your donation will ensure this resource will be available to other families in the community. Thank you for your support.
