On February 21, AdventHealth Foundation Central Florida hosted the 19th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot. With the help of local community members and generous organizations, we raised $63,882 to fund new student merit scholarships for AdventHealth University students.
The 19th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot was held at Blackjack Sporting Clays with a record breaking 188 attendees representing over 25 company sponsors.
Blackjack Sporting Clays offered an impressive collection of shotgun sports, including target shooting. The shooters were challenged by targets thrown in a mix of sizes, speeds and formations. The winning team was awarded sporting gear while all attendees enjoyed a BBQ lunch.
Since its proceeds started benefiting students four years ago, the event has awarded over $155,000 dollars to more than 80 students like scholarship recipient Alejandro Teron.
Alejandro always had an interest in nursing and this scholarship gave him the chance to pursue his dream of becoming a nurse
I’ve always loved helping people and I love the hospital setting. I am also Seventh-Day Adventist so attending AdventHealth University was just the perfect fit,” explained Alejandro.
Alejandro graduated from Forest Lake Academy in Apopka and wanted to stay close to home to help take care of his mother, Brenda. A few years ago, Brenda suffered injuries from an alarming accident with a collapsed building. Alejandro wanted to attend a local college to support his mother on her road to recovery.
I’m in such a blessed position to receive money to go to school. My mom is happy that I am staying close to home. I have a great family that encourages me to stay positive. I praise the Lord because I got this scholarship,” said Alejandro.
The mission of this event is embodied in the dreams of students like Alejandro, who remains passionate about pursuing NICU or Emergency room nursing. He is grateful to be where he is and feels optimistic about his future in health care.
