ORANGE CITY, Fla., August 9, 2018 Gastroenterologist Dr. Mihir Patel has joined the AdventHealth HealthCare Partners medical staff at AdventHealth Fish Memorial.
AdventHealth HealthCare Partners is the employed group of more than 160 primary care physicians and specialists for the AdventHealth’s in Volusia and Flagler counties.
As a gastroenterologist, Patel specializes in all major diseases of the digestive system and provides screening colonoscopies, EGD (upper endoscopy), video capsule endoscopy, as well as diagnostic and complex therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and ERCP Spyglass assessment for bile duct cancer. He also performs esophageal and intestinal stenting, Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) placement and Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) of large gastrointestinal polyps.
Patel earned his medical degree from the M. S. University of Baroda in India. At the University of Louisville in Kentucky, he completed a residency in internal medicine and earned a Master of Science in Public Health in Clinical Investigations.
Patel went on to complete a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, and an additional fellowship in advance endoscopy for complex endoscopy procedures from Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
Patel most recently served on the medical staff at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. During this time, he also served as clinical instructor at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine.
He is currently a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Association of Bariatric Endoscopy.
He has served as an executive member of the Medicaid Technical Advisory Board for the State of Tennessee, the Trainee Committee for the American College of Gastroenterology, and the Practice Management-Reimbursement Committee of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. In addition, he has served as an executive representative of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, as a member of the Subspecialty Advisory Group on Socioeconomic Affairs, Medical Practice and Quality Committee, and the American College of Physicians. Patel has been awarded honor of being Fellow of American College of Gastroenterology (FACG).
Throughout his career, Patel has given many research and instructional presentations at regional, national, and international conferences. Furthermore, he has contributed to several peer-reviewed journal publications and book chapters, including the American Journal of Gastroenterology and the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology. He has achieved several awards, grants and honors in presentations of research publications in the field of Gastroenterology.
