Knowing how your conditions affects your overall health is the first step in gaining control of your symptoms and diabetes complications. AdventHealth Heart of Florida has a team of diabetes specialists — including endocrinologists, nurse educators, dieticians and other diabetes care professionals — to help you better understand your type 1 or type 2 diabetes and how to adapt your lifestyle with nutritional counseling, so you can best manage it.
If you are pre-diabetic, adhering to healthy self-management practices can even help you prevent a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. One-on-one counseling is also offered for our pregnant moms experiencing Gestational Diabetes.
Nutrition for Diabetes
There’s truth in the well-known phrase, “You are what you eat.” Nutrition is key to controlling your diabetes: A proper diet can lead to weight loss, and helps maintain healthy blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels.
Our registered dietitian can assist you with shopping, meal planning and nutritional counseling.

High glucose levels over a long period of time can lead to nerve damage (neuropathy) and poor blood circulation. These conditions are common diabetes complications that make it hard for your skin to repair itself and causes wounds to heal slowly, or not at all.
If you have a wound that won’t heal, call our Center for Wound Care at Call863-422-8123.
