AdventHealth Cancer Services Names New Clinical Operations Director

N.C., Hendersonville, NC (August 27, 2019) — AdventHealth Hendersonville is excited to announce that Lisa Gundersen, RN, CMSRN, OCN is the new Clinical Operations Director of Cancer Services. Gunderson is moving into this role from her position as Clinical Manager of the AdventHealth Hematology Oncology Infusion Services Hendersonville. She has been part of the AdventHealth care team as a Surgical Nurse, Cancer Service Charge Nurse and Clinical Manager since 2008.

Gundersen earned her Associate Degree in nursing from Blue Ridge Community College and is currently working toward her Bachelor of Science in nursing through the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She expects to complete her BSN in October 2019.

As Director of Clinical Operations for the AdventHealth Cancer Services team, Gundersen will have a direct impact on care needs for patients at AdventHealth Cancer centers across Western North Carolina. The AdventHealth Cancer Services program includes a collaborative care relationship between AdventHealth Hendersonville and Wake Forest Baptist Health. This relationship blends the whole-person care that Gundersen and her team ensure for every patient with medical breakthroughs and clinical trials from Wake Forest Baptist’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Lisa considers it a privilege to work for a faith-based organization and has a special focus to the way she cares for people. “I try to provide care for each of my patients as I would my own family member. They belong to someone. Someone loves them and worries about them and hopes they are being taking care of when they come to us. I try to make their time with us the best it can be under the circumstances. I want to alleviate their fears and let them know we love them and will take care of them like family.”

“Lisa sets the example of what it means to care for patients with uncommon compassion, meeting more than just the care need they have as a cancer patient. She creates relationships with every patient and team member,” said Roland Joy, AdventHealth Chief Nursing Officer. “We are excited to see her share that care philosophy and expectation with the Cancer Services team members at our four cancer centers located across Western North Carolina.”

When she is not caring for patients, Gundersen loves to go to garage sales. “I love the treasure hunt.” She also enjoys relaxing in the beauty of her backyard, relaxing to the sounds of nature around her. When asked what makes her “feel whole” she quickly says “Without a doubt, my family makes me feel whole. I have a wonderful husband, four grown children, and two grandchildren with two more on the way! Nothing makes me happier than knowing they love each other, forgive each other, and are kind to others.”
