AdventHealth Hendersonville Celebrates New DAISY Award Recipient

February 25, 2019 — AdventHealth invites the community to join us in congratulating our newest winner of the DAISY Award Kelli Stike, RN, BSN. Kelli is part of our Surgery Nurse Navigator team. Her clinical skill and dedication to patient safety was noticed by her co-workers and the patients that she cares for every day.

Here is an example of why Kelli Stike, RN, BSN was nominated and received the DAISY Award:

A couple of months ago, Kelli was seeing a patient for a pre-surgery work up and anesthesia interview for an elective procedure. That is when it came to her attention that the patient had a low platelet count. The patient had been moved up in the surgery schedule, which meant he was going to have the surgery sooner than expected.

As the Surgery Nurse Navigator, Kelli is the patient’s advocate. She discussed her concerns over proceeding with pre-surgery lab work with one of the AdventHealth Hendersonville Physicians and they shared the recommendation to not proceed with the patient and his wife.

She notified the surgeon of this decision and through this patient advocacy process they were able to postpone the surgery until the patient was in a more optimal health state.

Both the patient and his wife were very appreciative and expressed their sincere gratitude for Kelli and her willingness to speak up on their behalf.

Stike’s dedication to thorough whole person care – mind, body and spirit – shows her care expertise is deserving of notice.

AdventHealth is excited to partner with The DAISY Foundation to honor nurses, like Stike, who go above and beyond their daily tasks to make extraordinary differences in the lives of our patients and their families.

The DAISY Award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes to thank the nurses who cared for Patrick and for them as he battled an autoimmune disease. Patrick lost his battle, but his family realized the impact his nurses had on the final days of his life. For that they are forever grateful. They wanted to create an opportunity for all families who experience the benefits of the extraordinary care of nurses to show their appreciation.

The AdventHealth Nursing Administration presented Kelli Stike, RN, BSN with a gift package including:
