N.C., AdventHealth Hendersonville Honors Newest Recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Nov. 24, 2020; HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – AdventHealth Hendersonville is honored to introduce its newest winner of the DAISY Award, an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. Matt Young, RN, BBA, BSN, of the Medical-Surgical Unit is the DAISY Award recipient for the fourth quarter of 2020.

Young was nominated by his team members for providing care with uncommon compassion. His nominators highlighted a recent case when he spent extra time with a hospice patient whose family could not visit. One team member explains, “Matt made the effort several times throughout [the patient’s] last few days to put on his PPE and sit by her bedside, holding her hand and talking to her even when she could no longer respond.”

Another team member shared the following about Young during the nomination process: “Matt is a selfless, excellent team player, and a nurse worth boasting about. I am encouraged by his leadership and thankful to be a part of a team with him!”

The DAISY Award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes in 1999 to thank the nurses who cared for Patrick and for them as he battled an autoimmune disease. Patrick lost his battle, but his family realized the impact his nurses had on the final days of his life. For that, they wanted to create an opportunity for all families who experience the benefits of the extraordinary care of nurses to show their appreciation.
