N.C., AdventHealth Hendersonville Takes Steps to Notify Patients and Public:

Vendor Reports Possible Food Safety Issue

Hendersonville, N.C. (November 5, 2019) On November 4, 2019, Mann Packing issued a voluntary recall of fresh broccoli florets because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. To date, public health officials have not reported any illness associated with these products.

Mann Packing is a supplier of produce to US Foods, which is a food vendor for AdventHealth Hendersonville. Mann Packing issued the recall to its customer (US Foods), and US Foods then passed along the recall information to AdventHealth Hendersonville.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

AdventHealth is extending this message to patients and the public. If you believe you consumed broccoli via our patient tray service or in our public cafeteria between the dates of 9/24/19 and 11/2/19 and are suffering from the symptoms listed above, please seek medical attention.
