N.C., AdventHealth Hendersonville Welcomes Hospitalist to Team of Caregivers

Feb. 2, 2021, HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – AdventHealth Hendersonville is pleased to welcome hospitalist Kristy Duggan, MD, to its team of providers. Dr. Duggan is board-certified in internal medicine and most recently served as a medical instructor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C.

Dr. Duggan attended medical school at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C., and completed her internship, residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Ore. She says she is thrilled to return to North Carolina to be closer to family and join a team that integrates her philosophy as a physician.

“As an internal medicine physician, my goal has always been to care for my patients holistically,” Dr. Duggan says. “Finding a place that not only aligns with this philosophy but has the infrastructure in place to support it truly is unique.”

Dr. Duggan pursued medicine as a way to help people physically, emotionally and spiritually and says her approach as a hospitalist places importance on communication.

“My patients often tell me the hardest part of being in the hospital is the uncertainty – ‘What is going on with me? When is my procedure? When will we have answers?’” Dr. Duggan explains. “My goal is to consistently clarify as much as possible and engage in the difficult waiting with my patients when only time will tell.”

She adds that as a physician, she values the collective strength of a team.

“I rely on the multidisciplinary team and find joy in empowering each and every member,” Dr. Duggan says. “None of us were meant to provide whole-person care on our own.”

In her free time, Dr. Duggan enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and children, as well as yoga, exercise and reflective writing.
