N.C., AdventHealth Medical Group Multispecialty at Flat Rock Welcomes Family Nurse Practitioner

June 11, 2020; HENDERSONVILLE, NCAdventHealth Hendersonville welcomes certified family nurse practitioner Susannah Sitton, FNP-C, RN, to its network of care. Sitton is joining AdventHealth Medical Group Multispecialty at Flat Rock, where she will offer primary care to patients of all ages with a whole-person approach.

AdventHealth Medical Group Multispecialty at Flat Rock is located at 841 Case Street, Hendersonville, NC. It is an innovative care center that is part of the Phoenix Project, a collaboration between The Free Clinics, AdventHealth and Safelight. The Phoenix Project seeks to bring comprehensive, integrated healthcare to vulnerable women through trauma-informed, ACES*-informed, resiliency-focused and holistic care.

“I believe in the mission of AdventHealth and felt like this was where I was meant to be,” says Sitton, who has been providing care in western North Carolina since 2001. “I am excited to be a part of a Christ-centered facility and help the Phoenix Project grow in an effort to care for some of our most vulnerable citizens.”

Sitton’s seasoned background includes being an ER nurse at both Mission Health and Pardee Hospital, as well as serving as a nurse educator at MATRAC since 2003. She is also a certified flight nurse and was a member of the Regional Air One Medical team based in Spartanburg, SC from 2009-2013.

Sitton earned her associate degree in nursing at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, then went on to complete her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Western Carolina University in 2013. She graduated from the family nurse practitioner program at Western Carolina University in 2016.

After years of caring for people of many backgrounds, Sitton strongly believes in treating each patient as a unique person and focusing on small victories in the journey to wellness.

“I have always told my patients, ‘I work for you,’ meaning that it is my job to help educate patients and provide them with the information needed to make sound, health-conscious choices in their health care,” Sitton says. “I have shared in many patients’ successes that involve smoking cessation, dietary and weight improvements, and lowering of blood pressure and blood sugars.”

In this newest career change, Sitton says she is excited to work for an organization that encourages prayer in the workplace and with patients.

“I believe an important part of helping my patients feel whole is to treat them as a whole person,” Sitton explains. “I want to encourage patients to make choices to improve their physical, emotional and spiritual health, as these are all interdependent – and if one area is suffering, then the others will soon follow.”

Sitton is married to a firefighter and paramedic who works locally, and has one daughter, one stepdaughter, one stepson and a grandson whom she loves spending time with.

To keep herself healthy and happy, Sitton enjoys attending church and spending time outdoors riding her horse, kayaking, swimming, running and working on her small farm.
