- What to Expect Before and After Surgery
-
You can feel more confident when you know what to expect. We'll be here to guide you throughout the surgery process, but you may want to take some time to familiarize yourself with what to expect and what to do before and after your surgery.
Before Your Surgery
Before your surgical procedure, your surgeon's office will set up a time for you to visit outpatient surgery, where you will receive preoperative lab tests, talk with a preoperative nurse, and register for your surgery. To make your visit as smooth as possible, please bring your insurance card and a list of all your current medications.
The Day of Your Surgery
Your doctor will give you instructions about what to eat and drink before your surgery. On the day of your surgical procedure, please leave all your valuables at home or with a loved one, and do not wear any jewelry, makeup, or nail polish. You can enter through the main entrance and check in at the information desk in the front lobby.
After Your Surgery
After your surgical procedure, you may be admitted to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), where you will recover from the effects of anesthesia. The usual length of stay in PACU is about an hour. After you have recovered, your care team will transfer you back to outpatient surgery or to your room until you're ready for a friend or family member to drive you home.
You may be feeling anxious before your surgery, and that's perfectly normal. Just know that our specialists will be right by your side from one end of the process to the other, and that we'll do whatever we can to ease your stress and make you comfortable.
