- Advanced Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
-
The Wound Care Center offers Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), which is an effective adjunctive treatment for specific wounds and the late effects of radiation therapy. Our hyperbaric chamber treats wounds in a pressurized 100-percent-oxygen environment — enabling healing oxygen to circulate through the patient’s tissues and bloodstream. This oxygen-rich blood helps preserve damaged tissue, control infections and promote healing. During hyperbaric treatment sessions, patients can relax while watching television, or listening to music, as our team of nurses and doctors monitors their treatment.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy may prove helpful for healing several conditions. Our expert staff can help determine if this procedure may be beneficial to you or your loved one. Your doctor may ask for consultation for these approved conditions:
- Deep diabetic foot wounds extending to bone or tendon.
- Infection of the bone (osteomyelitis) that was not cured with antibiotics.
- Radiation treatment for cancer may provide lifesaving outcomes. As a result of this therapy, people may experience adverse symptoms that may present months or years after completion of treatment.
These late effects of treatment may cause skin wounds, dental issues, or bleeding from the bladder. Hyperbaric oxygen treatment can allow the growth of new blood vessels allowing oxygen to reach these tissues to promote healing.
