The leading-edge technology incorporates water therapy for more precision in removing enlarged prostate tissue.

TAMPA, Fla., (June 30, 2021) Tarpon Springs, Fla. - AdventHealth North Pinellas is the first and only hospital on the Gulf Coast of Florida to use an autonomous robotic tool that treats men with enlarged prostates, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Aquablation therapy, the minimally invasive FDA-approved procedure, is designed to improve the quality of life for men and reduce their risks of urinary tract complications. Nearly 40-million men in the United States have BPH, however, only 12 million get treated. If untreated, BPH can lead to significant health problems including, kidney damage, bladder stones, and urinary tract infections.

“Aquablation therapy allows us to elevate care for our patients and provide long-lasting symptom relief for them,” said Dr. Amar Raval, Urologist at AdventHealth North Pinellas. “It’s important for those we serve to know that AdventHealth North Pinellas is committed to investing in the most innovative technology that leads to the best care possible.”

The Aquablation procedure takes about one hour and requires an overnight hospital stay. James Patchett was one of the first patients to be treated with the new therapy.

“Since the procedure, the pain and discomfort I was feeling have lessened. I’ve been able to get on my feet and enjoy the activities I had trouble with before,” said James Patchett. “I felt better knowing this new piece of technology was available at AdventHealth North Pinellas and that my doctor could use it to treat the problem and help improve my quality of life.”

AdventHealth North Pinellas is committed to offering advanced care to patients. The hospital has once again maintained safety as a top priority and earned a Leapfrog “A” grade from the prestigious Leapfrog Group, and most recently achieved a 5-star CMS rating, the highest rating possible for hospital quality.
