AdventHealth Ottawa Receives Geriatric Accreditation, ‘A’ Grade from Leapfrog

OTTAWA, Kan., AdventHealth Ottawa Emergency Department has achieved Geriatric accreditation from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). This ACEP accreditation solidifies AdventHealth Ottawa as an institution with a reputation for delivering excellent geriatric patient care.

“We are very proud of our Emergency Department team’s effort in achieving this accreditation. It demonstrates that we are committed to providing the highest standard of care for our community’s senior citizens,” said Doug Rich, chief operating officer at AdventHealth Ottawa.

With AdventHealth Ottawa based in Ottawa, Kan., and primarily serving patient populations in rural counties, ACEP accreditation also ensures that hospitals have the optimal transitions of care in place from the time a patient presents in the emergency department to when they transfer to another care setting such as home health care, community-based care, rehabilitation, skilled nursing facility or long-term care.

In addition to the ACEP accreditation, AdventHealth Ottawa recently received an ‘A’ grade from the Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients.

“Receiving an ‘A’ from the Leapfrog Group along with ACEP accreditation shows the entire region that when you go to AdventHealth Ottawa as a patient you are going to be treated by our clinical and ancillary teams at the highest level of care,” said Stacy Steiner, RN, chief nursing officer at AdventHealth Ottawa. “Patient safety and quality will remain a vital part in how we provide whole-person care to anyone in our community.”

Along with these national accreditations and rankings, AdventHealth Ottawa has also seen a significant period of growth in the region where healthcare deserts are a concern. In February 2024, the AdventHealth Ottawa Health Park completed a $5.2 million expansion and renovation project, bringing a new behavioral health program and outpatient cardiology and pulmonology services to the complex that already housed primary care, internal medicine, pediatric, neurology, sleep medicine and rheumatology services. This expansion also included a renovation of the Sports Medicine and Rehab annex space.
