AdventHealth Ottawa Welcomes OBGYN Bridget Abney, MD

OTTAWA, Kan., AdventHealth Ottawa is pleased to welcome obstetrician-gynecologist Bridget Abney, MD, FACOG. Dr. Abney is Board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and recognized as a Fellow with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Abney to AdventHealth Ottawa and the Franklin County community,” said Doug Rich, chief operating officer of AdventHealth Ottawa. “She is an experienced and distinguished OBGYN dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of care. Her approach to compassionate care aligns with our mission, and we are confident patients will value her expertise.”

Dr. Abney earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Missouri – Kansas City and completed her residencies at Belleville Family Practice and the University of Missouri – Kansas City. She brings more than 25 years of experience to AdventHealth Ottawa and surrounding region.

“I’m deeply committed to the health and wellbeing of women and have dedicated my career to providing the highest quality care possible,” said Dr. Abney. “I have enjoyed settling into the Franklin County community and look forward to serving patients in the region.”

Dr. Abney will provide outpatient OBGYN services at her office located at 901 S. Main Street in

Ottawa, Kan., in the AdventHealth Ottawa Health Park. She has admitting privileges and will deliver patients at AdventHealth South Overland Park and AdventHealth Shawnee Mission. Recruiting efforts are underway for labor and delivery services at AdventHealth Ottawa, and Dr. Abney will have admitting privileges there when labor and delivery services resume at that location.

The addition of Dr. Abney builds on exciting momentum for AdventHealth Ottawa, having recently celebrated some important additional milestones, including:

  • Brendan Johnson recently named President and Chief Executive Officer of AdventHealth Ottawa, effective January 20, 2025.
  • AdventHealth Ottawa Health Park completed a $5.2 million expansion and renovation, bringing a new behavioral health program and outpatient cardiology and pulmonology services to the complex that already houses primary care, internal medicine, pediatric, neurology, sleep medicine and rheumatology services. This expansion also included a renovation of the Sports Medicine and Rehab annex space.
  • The AdventHealth Ottawa Emergency Department has achieved Geriatric accreditation from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). This ACEP accreditation solidifies AdventHealth Ottawa as an institution with a reputation for delivering excellent geriatric patient care.
  • AdventHealth Ottawa Chief Operating Officer Doug Rich received a Heart of Health Care Award from the Kansas Hospital Association for his advocacy in rural health initiatives and for helping build community services for Franklin County.
  • AdventHealth Ottawa, in partnership with the AdventHealth Ottawa Foundation, teamed up with the national nonprofit organization Shoes That Fit to provide shoes for Franklin County elementary school students in need. In February, 1,149 students received a brand-new pair of name-brand athletic shoes along with five pairs of socks.
