AdventHealth South Overland Park, located at 165th and Antioch in the Bluhawk development, is expanding to meet the needs of the growing community. AdventHealth will break ground in fall 2019 on a 193,000 square-foot, 85-bed hospital designed to provide patients with access to a full suite of hospital and emergency services.

Plans for the facility’s expansion include a new birth center, surgical services, intensive care unit, heart care and more. The expansion will generate approximately 200 full-time equivalent jobs.

“AdventHealth South Overland Park has been serving the Bluhawk and surrounding communities for the past two years, and as the area grows we’re committed to growing with it,” said Karsten Randolph, chief financial officer for the Mid-America region of AdventHealth. “Our team looks forward to continuing our mission of providing comprehensive, compassionate care focused on the whole person as we support the rapid growth of AdventHealth in Kansas City.”

AdventHealth South Overland Park opened in 2017, and currently includes a 24/7 emergency department, imaging, dedicated women’s imaging center, laboratory and a medical office building with primary care, physical therapy and physician specialties including cardiology, neurosurgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology and dermatology.

“We’ve been building our physician network in south Overland Park,” said Randolph. “It’s important that we bring these providers closer to where their patients live and work, and building a new hospital with the latest medical technology will allow them to care for more patients and provide more advanced health care services.”

With the expansion plans, AdventHealth is building upon momentum in the Johnson County community. Earlier this month, Shawnee Mission Health formally rebranded as AdventHealth, part of a systemwide brand transformation to become a more consumer-centric, connected and identifiable national system of care. AdventHealth will open a new outpatient health center at the corner of College Boulevard and Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park later this year. The $36 million, 58,000 square-foot facility will include an emergency room, imaging center, physician offices and laboratory services. The health system is also adding a 100,000 square-foot medical office building to the AdventHealth Shawnee Mission campus in Merriam, Kan. later this year, which will house primary care and physician specialty clinics.
