Helping You Take Charge of Your Well-Being
- Heart Care
-
Men have a greater heart attack risk than women, and they experience attacks earlier in life.
The good news is that you can lower your risk of heart disease significantly by maintaining your weight, eating a healthy diet, exercising, managing stress, avoiding smoking and abstaining from or limiting alcohol consumption.
Our heart care professionals will provide you with information about your risk factors and ways to prevent the development or reduce the progression of heart disease.
We provide a range of treatments and therapies to combat heart disease, including the following:
- Medications such as statins, beta-blockers and ACE inhibitors
- Minimally invasive cardiac catheterization techniques, including angioplasty, stent placement, ablation and coronary atherectomy
- Surgical options include coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), congenital heart disease repair, arrhythmia surgeries, valve repairs and aortic aneurysm surgery
- Education on heart disease and heart-healthy lifestyle changes
Heart Attack Symptoms
Some men don't experience chest pain at all. In some cases, symptoms are mild and come on slowly, so heart attacks are not always easily recognizable. Being aware of all the symptoms can help save your life.
Symptoms often include the following:
- Chest discomfort that feels like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of your chest, lasting for more than a few minutes, or can go away and come back
- Discomfort or pain in other areas of the upper body, such as in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach
- Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort
- Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea, vomiting or lightheadedness
- Prostate Health
-
Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in American men, other than skin cancer, with 1 in 8 men developing the disease within their lifetime.
Our cancer care team uses diagnostic technology to detect cancer at its earliest stages, when it is most treatable.
Doctors often combine more than one therapy to treat prostate cancer, such as the following:
- Active surveillance: For men who do not undergo surgery, doctors may increase monitoring through more frequent prostate-specific antigen (PSA) tests, digital rectal exams and biopsies
- Chemotherapy: Anti-cancer medications can be used when the cancer has spread outside the prostate gland
- Cryosurgery: This technique is sometimes used to treat localized prostate cancer by freezing diseased tissue
- Hormone therapy: Lowering the levels of male hormones, mainly testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), can make prostate cancers shrink or grow more slowly
- Radiation therapy: Doctors may utilize external beam or internal methods, including brachytherapy
- Robotic-assisted surgery: Surgeons can remove the prostate using minimally invasive procedures, which may offer less pain and scarring and a quicker recovery than open surgery or laparoscopic techniques
- Urologic Care
-
Our board-certified urologists provide quality care for urinary conditions, prostate cancer, infertility, erectile dysfunction and other sexual health conditions.
- Sports Med and Rehab
-
Whether you're a weekend warrior or a serious athlete, our sports medicine experts, orthopedic doctors and physical therapists treat a range of injuries and offer valuable strategies for avoiding injury.
