In June 2024, AdventHealth Shawnee Mission proudly donated $24,000 to ReNewed Hope Food Pantry, a charitable outreach organization of the New Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church in Overland Park, Kan., that aims to ensure no person goes hungry by bringing the mobile food pantry (the Hope Bus) to those facing food insecurity in Johnson County and throughout Kansas City.
Members of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission staff, including David Kennedy, regional executive director of mission, Sondra Wallace, director of community benefit, and Mary Frishman, administrative coordinator for pastoral care, presented a large check to ReNewed Hope Food Pantry representatives, including Founder and Director Karen Wiltson and Jeff Carlson, pastor at New Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church, during one of the Hope Bus's monthly scheduled food distribution events at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.
From its inception, ReNewed Hope Food Pantry was brought to the community by the New Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church with the goal that no person in the community should go hungry regardless of their circumstances. In addition to food, ReNewed Hope Food Pantry team members bring hope and encouragement to those facing food insecurity in Johnson County and throughout the Kansas City metro. Their mission is to feed the hungry and help neighbors as God asked in Isaiah 58, "Who is our neighbor?". As part of a world-wide church with more than 15 million members, ReNewed Hope Food Pantry is passionate about the Bible as the only basis of their faith and mission.
