Woman

AdventHealth South Overland Park has named Michèle Jean-François, MD, as its chief medical officer effective March 4. Previously, Jean-François, board certified in internal medicine and obesity medicine, held the role of hospitalist services medical director for AdventHealth South Overland Park where she forecasted and identified the needs of the hospital medicine service and recommended corresponding allocation of resources, and held responsibilities for recruiting, interviewing, training and supervising hospitalists and nurse practitioners.

“Having seen the growth and development of AdventHealth South Overland Park from being the new hospital in town to one of the nation’s top hospitals is inspiring because of the people that helped make it happen,” said Jean-François; AdventHealth South Overland Park was named a Top General Hospital by the Leapfrog Group in 2023, less than 3 years after it first opened as a full-service hospital. “I am proud to have the opportunity to lead and work alongside our exceptional medical staff so that we may strive to achieve greater accolades nationally while always earning the complete trust from our patient community.”

Jean-François has more than 10 years of inpatient care experience across AdventHealth Mid-America Region. Prior to her previous role as hospitalist services medical director for AdventHealth South Overland Park, she was a hospitalist and internal medicine specialist for AdventHealth Shawnee Mission from 2013 to 2021 where she led daily multi-disciplinary rounds to optimize patient care, discharge planning, decrease length of stay, prevent readmission, and improve patient satisfaction.

“I am thrilled Dr. Jean-François will be joining the leadership team at AdventHealth South Overland Park,” said Alan Verrill, MD, president and CEO of AdventHealth South Overland Park. “She is supported by our region, and we are eager to see her bring her enthusiasm, self-motivation and commitment to evidence-based medicine and process improvement to her role as chief medical officer.”

In addition to her role, Jean-François has lent her skills and expertise to various medical and leadership committees, including being an active member on the AdventHealth South Overland Park Medical Executive Committee, TeamHealth’s Clinical Documentation Subcommittee, and AdventHealth Shawnee Mission’s Education Program and Library and Utilization Review Committees. Jean-François, who is fluent in Creole and French and is conversational in Spanish, graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
