— Zephyrhills, FL – AdventHealth Zephyrhills has been named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics by the Women’s Choice Award® and an Own the Bone Star Performer by the American Orthopaedic Association.
The Women’s Choice Award signifies that AdventHealth Zephyrhills is in the top 8% of 4,542 U.S. hospitals offering orthopedics services. Through our participation in Own the Bone and recognition as an Own the Bone Star Performer, AdventHealth Zephyrhills has demonstrated a commitment to helping patients understand their risk for future fractures and the steps they can take to prevent them.
“These designations underscore AdventHealth Zephyrhills’ ongoing commitment to keeping our patients safe and providing exceptional orthopedic care,” said Gwen Alonso, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for AdventHealth Zephyrhills. “We are honored to be recognized as one of America’s best hospitals for orthopedics.”
The methodology used to select AdventHealth Zephyrhills as one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics is unique in that it evaluates Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results along with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences. Award recipients are also measured on their incidence of surgical complications and infections, including:
- A wound that splits open after surgery
- Accidental cuts and tears
- Deaths from serious treatable complications
- Rate of complications for knee or hip replacement patients
- Catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI)
- Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) infections
A hospital must have arthroscopy, joint replacement and spine surgery orthopedic services available to patients, onsite physical therapy, and an MRI in order to qualify for the award. It is the only award recognizing excellence in orthopedics based on robust criteria that consider patient satisfaction and clinical excellence.
AdventHealth Zephyrhills is one of 455 award recipients representing the hospitals that have met the highest standards for orthopedics care in the U.S. by the Women’s Choice Award.
Own the Bone Star Performers like AdventHealth Zephyrhills must achieve a 75% compliance rate with at least 5 of the 10 Own the Bone prevention measures including: educating patients on the importance of calcium and vitamin D, physical activity, fall prevention, limiting alcohol intake, and smoking cessation; recommending and initiating bone mineral density testing; discussing pharmacotherapy and treatment (when applicable); and providing written communication to the patient and their physician regarding specific risk factors and treatment recommendations.
AdventHealth Zephyrhills is committed to offering advanced care to patients. The hospital has once again maintained safety as a top priority, even during a pandemic, it was able to earn Leapfrog “A” grade from the prestigious Leapfrog Group, and most recently achieved 5-star CMS rating for hospital quality.
