NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., February 28, 2017 The Florida Hospital New Smyrna Foundation and the Kiwanis Club Foundation of Southeast Volusia County joined together to donate funds to students at New Smyrna Beach High School on Feb. 16.
Florida Hospital New Smyrna donated $1,500 to the high schools Medical Academy and the Kiwanis Club Foundation donated $1,500 to the high schools Key Club.
These funds were raised during the 20th annual Holiday Charity Ball in November with more than 450 attendees at the Brannon Community Center.
The New Smyrna Beach High School Key Club is sponsored by Kiwanis, and the New Smyrna Beach High School Medical Academy is sponsored by Florida Hospital New Smyrna, said Pat Driver, chairman of the Foundation and a member of Kiwanis. These students volunteered and assisted us with this years Charity Ball. In appreciation for their support and dedication, we are proud to donate $1,500 from this years event to support their on-going school programs.
The Holiday Charity Ball is a New Smyrna Beach tradition that began in 1996. New Smyrna Beach philanthropist and business owner Kaye Walker planned the first event with the goal to support various local charities.
The funds raised from this years event not only supported the local high school students, but also other various youth programs in Southeast Volusia, as well as local health initiatives, such as providing mammograms for women in-need, as well as medical equipment.
