Manchester Memorial Hospital (MMH) hosted a Meet and Greet on October 15 to celebrate the opening of its new oncology clinic, designed to bring cancer services to residents of clay county and surrounding communities.
The event began with a word of prayer, after which Senator Robert Stivers, Senate President, Senate District 25 took to the podium, Weve been waiting a long time for this service to be provided locally and I'm very glad that this day has come. He further narrated how he'd seen local residents having to travel long distances for their treatments and how having a clinic in Manchester would bring relief to the residents.
Representing the Clay County Cancer Coalition was Paul Bowling, who shared his pleasure with being provided space within the clinic. Dr. Timothy Mullet, medical director of the Markey Center at UK also spoke on the occasion, touching upon how needed this service was in clay county and how he hoped to partner with the clinic in order to create connections and expand cancer care.
The new clinic, located at 515 Memorial Drive, Suite 2, Manchester, will be opening its doors to patients on October 16 and will offer a multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care that puts the patients at the center. The opening of an oncology clinic in clay county will also reduce the amount of travel and scheduling required for the residents. Being diagnosed with cancer is stressful enough, said Chris Self, President/CEO of MMH. The treatment should not add to that stress. With our new on-campus clinic, we are bringing the best oncology care closer to home.
Heading the new clinic would be Utpal K. Bhanja, MD. Dr. Bhanja is an Internist, Medical Oncologist and Hematologist, who has been in practice for more than three decades. He is dual board certified in Hematology and Medical Oncology and provides diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of cancer related conditions and blood disorders.
