NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., February 22, 2017 On Feb. 14, Florida Hospital New Smyrna hosted the Sweetheart Luncheon at the Brannon Community Center for the hospitals auxiliary members. More than 100 attendees joined together over lunch to celebrate the successes from the past year. Last year, our volunteers made some pretty tremendous donations. They gave $12,600 to our cardiac rehab department to purchase new exercise equipment for those recovering from heart disease. They also gave $6,000 in scholarships to Medical Academy students at New Smyrna High School who plan on pursuing medical careers, said Ken Mattison, Florida Hospital New Smyrna CEO. That's not all, either! The auxiliary also assisted many in our community who were impacted by disasters like Hurricane Matthew. Florida Hospital New Smyrna currently has nearly 150 active volunteers assisting in 17 departments throughout the hospital. In 2016, Florida Hospital New Smyrna auxiliary volunteered for a total of 35,465 hours, which equates to nearly $712,000, according to the National Value of Volunteer Time.
