About Our Program
Welcome to the PGY1 and PGY2 Pharmacy Informatics Residency at AdventHealth Orlando.
A 1200+ bed acute care teaching hospital serving as a major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, AdventHealth Orlando is located in Orlando, Florida and treats over 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients annually. As a leader in evidence-based medicine, AdventHealth Orlando is home to a variety of nationally recognized institutes and programs such as Cardiology, Critical Care, Diabetes, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Orthopedics, Neuroscience, and Solid Organ Transplant. Additionally, AdventHealth is one of the largest Medicare providers in the United States. Ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the United States and in the state of Florida, AdventHealth Orlando has a long-standing history of excellence in patient care and provides a robust portfolio of specialty services as well as cutting-edge clinical programs to highly complex patient populations.
This program integrates clinical practice with Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA)/Master of Business Administration (MBA) coursework and informatics rotations to develop a foundation upon which the resident will build a career in health-system pharmacy informatics. The first year of this PGY1/2 program aims for the resident to develop a strong clinical foundation with various opportunities to engage in administrative experiences. The second year focuses on the informatics aspect of this residency. Residents provide evidence-based patient care, lead process improvement initiatives, direct operational or clinical changes based on capabilities and limitations of available pharmacy automation systems and the electronic health record system, and serve as subject matter experts on the technology-related aspects of the medication use process for the enterprise. Graduates are highly competitive for a variety of health-system leadership, IT, and vendor roles. The dual MHA/MBA degree positions the resident for senior healthcare executive roles.
