About Our Program
Established in 1997, AdventHealth Celebration is part of the AdventHealth integrated healthcare system in central Florida that serves residents of Osceola, Orange, Polk and Lake counties, as well as patients from all over the world seeking various healthcare specialties. AdventHealth Celebration is a non-for-profit, 357 bed state-of-the-art community hospital that is a prototype for health promotion in a model community designed by Walt Disney. Services are offered to treat and heal but also focus on preventing illness and promotion of good health to fulfill the mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.
PGY-2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY-1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY-2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY-2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic or other specialized positions — along with board certification if available.
Established in 2018, the PGY2 in ambulatory care at AdventHealth Celebration is an ASHP accredited program, which grew from the PGY1 focused in ambulatory care program that has more than 20 years of experience in training highly qualified pharmacy residents. The PGY2 pharmacy residency provides an opportunity for dynamic, highly motivated individuals to build upon skills obtained in PGY1 training and gain robust experiences in primary care, ambulatory care, geriatric care, and population health pharmacy settings. The PGY2 residents will work collaboratively with experienced pharmacists as well as multi-disciplinary healthcare teams to provide guideline-directed care in anticoagulation management, transitions of care, diabetes management, medication management, population health, and geriatric care settings. Additionally, PGY2 residents will gain valuable leadership/management experience acting as chief pharmacy resident and serving in selected chair positions in marketing/recruitment, quality assurance, research liaison, and student liaison. PGY2 residents will participate in developing and/or expanding an ambulatory care service and will gain extensive preceptor/mentorship experience with pharmacy students and PGY1 residents. Completion of the PGY2 residency program in ambulatory care at AdventHealth Celebration will foster the development of advanced ambulatory care skills to become a well-rounded pharmacist ready to work in an ambulatory care, primary care, geriatric care, or population health setting.
