About Our Residency Program
Welcome to the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at AdventHealth Redmond. AdventHealth Redmond is a nonprofit, 230-bed, community teaching hospital, serving as a regional referral source for Northwest Georgia. We are a Level III trauma center with specialty certifications from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association. As an Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI, we provide a full-service cardiology product line and are nationally recognized as a top cardiac center. With the mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ, our hospital offers whole-person care to heal the body, mind and spirit.
Our pharmacy team is a well-established and respected part of the multidisciplinary patient care team. Health care team members regard our pharmacists as experts and depend on our guidance to optimize patient outcomes. We provide direct patient care in a variety of specialties, including internal medicine, cardiology, medical and surgical critical care, antimicrobial stewardship and more.
Our ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency program offers a comprehensive training experience designed to accelerate the professional development of competent pharmacists by promoting confidence, leadership and advanced professional skills in pharmaceutical care. Located in the heart of Rome, Georgia, our hospital provides a diverse patient population and a supportive learning environment for residents to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge. Residents complete a series of learning experiences tailored to their individual interests and career goals. These experiences provide exposure to a wide range of disease states and patient populations, allowing residents to develop expertise in medication therapy management.
Our hospital values interdisciplinary collaboration, therefore, residents work closely with physicians, medical residents, nurses and other health care professionals to optimize patient care outcomes. Residents participate in interdisciplinary rounds and committees to enhance their teamwork and communication skills. AdventHealth Redmond is a clinical training site for several colleges and programs including pharmacy, medicine and nursing. Residents complete a teaching certificate program, serve as co-preceptors for pharmacy students on clinical rotations and participate in didactic teaching activities to enhance their teaching skills. Residents also engage in various longitudinal experiences throughout the year to foster skills in medication safety, evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement.
Under the guidance of model practitioners, residents develop foundational clinical, operational and practice management skills. Specific program structure is individualized to each resident’s strengths, interests and career goals to establish the best strategy for resident growth and success.
