GR8 to DON8

AdventHealth Foundation Central Florida Events, Gr8 to Don8

According to Donate Life America, 95% of Americans are in favor of being an organ donor but only 58% are registered. The gap between these numbers is growing every day, as organ donors are in high demand. GR8toDON8 8k/5k, benefiting TransLife, brings awareness to this important issue while celebrating donors and recipients.

In honor of Organ Donation Month—and celebrating its 10th anniversary—over 1,000 runners, walkers and volunteers gathered at Lyman High School for Gr8toDon8. All dollars raised go back into the community to provide donation education in TransLife’s 10-county service area across Central Florida. Many participants in the race are recipients of donated organs and their immense gratitude towards the cause is evident.

AdventHealth, one of the presenting sponsors of GR8toDON8, has one of the nation’s oldest and largest transplant programs. They have the best patient outcomes in the U.S. for liver transplants, performed more heart transplants in 2018 than any other program in the Southeast, and hold a record for the shortest median wait time for lung transplants in the country.

Janna, the Public Relations Manager at TransLife, explains the importance of organ donation.

“Partnerships with organizations like GR8toDON8 help provide vital organ and tissue donation education in our community. Just one person saying ‘yes’ to registering as an organ and tissue donor can save up to eight lives. Last year, 587 people received a life-saving organ transplant because of donor heroes in Central Florida who gave the precious Gift of Life. Together, we’re saving lives.”
