The team at AdventHealth Foundation Central Florida is pleased to announce John and Kim Erhard as our June Volunteer of the Month. They first were connected with AdventHealth after their friends Al and Brea Weiss encouraged them to get involved. John shared that, “their excitement was infections, and we knew we had to get involved.”
When asked why John and Kim felt called to give back, they shared their history with pediatric oncology. Kim started to volunteer with the arts and music therapy programs and added, “I have always personally connected with how therapeutic those added elements are as a patient. When I saw all the amazing things AdventHealth was providing patients, I felt connected instantly. From there forward, as parents, we definitely wanted to support the effort.”
John added, “after learning more about the situations parents have to go through when they have a sick child, I really began to understand how AdventHealth was providing for those families with volunteers and various programs. You really can take things for granted until you need the help yourself.”
What would you say to others who are interested in getting involved and giving back?
Kim and John have a passion for encouraging other community members to get involved in giving back. Speaking among her peers within Central Florida, Kim shares how “AdventHealth goes above and beyond for their patients and families. There is so much love that pours out for the children in the hospital and you really have to see it in person. I am always incredibly touched and inspired by the work that is being done on a daily basis.”
John especially wants to caution others to “not fall into the trap of thinking that other people are helping so you don’t need to help. AdventHealth needs your support to continue the cutting-edge programs and technology that can save a patient’s life.”
