AdventHealth Foundation Central Florida recognizes Dr. Scott Silvestry as Volunteer of the Month for April. April is National Donate Life Month, which reminds us of the tremendous need for organ donations. Dr. Silvestry is the Surgical Director of our Thoracic Transplant Program and Co-Medical Director of the Heart, Lung and Vascular Institute. This past year, Dr. Silvestry served as a tireless physician champion for the Ginsburg Transplant Patient Assistance Fund. He was a physician guest speaker at a special dinner hosted by Alan Ginsburg to raise awareness and funds for this new endowment, made a significant personal gift to support this initiative, and was the surgeon for several grateful transplant patients who have made gifts in support of this new fund to help underserved patients. In addition, Dr. Silvestry and his ECMO (ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) team have been at the forefront for providing lifesaving treatment to our sickest covid patients throughout the pandemic.
Speaking about the relationship between the Transplant Institute and AdventHealth Foundation, Dr. Silvestry explained, “I’m tremendously grateful for the AdventHealth Foundation because we can’t do the things we need to do for our patients without this kind of partnership. The Foundation helps ensure patients in our community are not deprived of lifesaving care. They are able to get these resources because of the generosity of our community, of which I am a small part, and I have to do my share.”
Dr. Silvestry supports AdventHealth Foundation Central Florida because “it’s very important for physicians to remember to not only give in our service, but to give of ourselves so we are reminded that the work of AdventHealth Foundation transcends our individual interests and spreads all over the medical community.”
