AdventHealth Foundation Central Florida is excited to announce that Lee Alexander has been awarded the 2023 November Volunteer of the Month recognition. Lee and Steve Alexander have been actively involved with the Foundation for 13 years and have attended 18 Golden Galas.
The Alexander family was introduced to AdventHealth Foundation through Steve’s job and was quickly connected with Patricia Bornstein who brought the Alexanders on a tour of facilities that were only possible with philanthropic support. As a patient herself, Lee manages type 1 diabetes and coronary artery disease.
When asked to consider serving on a board, Lee and Steve chose to join the Heart, Lung and Vascular Board where Lee would eventually serve as Chair for three years. The Alexanders and fellow board member, Ed Varnes and launched a Clay Shoot to raise funds for the Trina Hidalgo Heart Care Center. The first Clay Shoot raised over $20,000 and provided an EKG machine. Seven years later, they have raised over $500,000 through this event.
When asked what kept them so involved with the Foundation, Lee shared, “The people, the doctors, the nurses, and the stories of grateful patients that they bring to us. It always goes back to the stories and the people.”
Recently, Lee served as the AdventHealth Golden Gala XLII Chair and supported an event that raised over $1.5M for patients and families across Central Florida.
