Give From Your IRA

Support care that heals the body, eases the mind, and ministers to the spirit with a gift from your IRA.

Are you age 70½ or older? Do you have an IRA account? After saving for years, you may find you don't need all the money that has accumulated, or don't need income from your IRA right now. If so, tapping your IRA account for a gift to AdventHealth Hendersonville might work for you. Your gift helps ensure that exceptional care - provided with uncommon compassion - is available to all.

Federal law permits you to make a direct transfer from your IRA account to a charity, like AdventHealth Hendersonville. It's called a Qualified Charitable Distribution or "QCD." A regular IRA withdrawal is included in your taxable income. QCDs aren't counted in that income and you don't have to itemize your taxes to enjoy the tax savings. There are some guidelines to keep in mind:

  • You aren't required to withdraw IRA assets until age 72, but you can use a QCD to give as soon as you are 70½.
  • Using QCDs, you can give up to $100,000 each year. If you file taxes jointly, your spouse can also give up to $100,000 from their IRA.
  • QCDs count toward your required minimum distribution {RMD}. Giving more, but there's no carry over to next year's RMD.
  • QCDs are excluded from taxable income, likely reducing the taxes you will owe.

Best of all, this is an easy way to give. Just notify your IRA administrator of the amount you wish to contribute and ask for a check to be mailed to AdventHealth Hendersonville Foundation, 100 Hospital Drive, Hendersonville, NC 28792.

Giving from your will, trust or retirement account.
