The AdventHealth Celebration advanced GI fellowship recently earned accreditation from The Fellowship Council, making it one of only 10 accredited advanced upper GI surgery fellowships in the United States.

AdventHealth launched the advanced GI surgery fellowship in 2012 to provide physicians with a structured educational experience for achieving expertise in complex surgical procedures and patient care. The fellowship focuses on minimally invasive techniques in the management of both benign and malignant gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary diseases.

The Fellowship Council was created in 1997 to foster the development of high-quality fellowships in minimally invasive surgery (MIS), gastrointestinal (GI), flexible endoscopy, bariatric, thoracic, colorectal and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery through a universal application and matching process. Obtaining accreditation from the Fellowship Council is a year-long process that entails a thorough evaluation of the fellowship as a whole, including the number of cases the fellows are exposed to, quality of the core faculty, and scholar activities. The goal of achieving this accreditation was to help AdventHealth attract the highest quality applicants who eventually will become national surgical leaders.
