For many men, an enlarged prostate — or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — is part of aging. This change begins around age 40 for some men, and about half of the male population experiences this condition by age 60.
Removing obstructing tissue via surgery or laser procedures has traditionally been the most common form of treatment for persistent moderate to severe BPH. However, the use of heat does have risks, including erectile dysfunction.
One option to reduce heat-related risks is Aquablation. This minimally invasive, robotic-assisted approach uses heat-free technology to remove a precise amount of tissue with room-temperature water — no incision required.
Even though BPH isn’t life-threatening, whole-person health is our focus, and we take these quality-of-life concerns seriously. Aquablation may help you find relief while avoiding the risks of traditional surgery. Contact one of our urology specialists in Altamonte Springs to learn more about Aquablation and determine if you’re a candidate for this innovative solution.

- Protect Your Health With Cancer Screenings
-
Cancer screenings are an important step in safeguarding your whole health. Research has shown that the earlier cancers — including prostate cancer — are diagnosed and treated, the better the outcomes. You can count on the experts at AdventHealth Altamonte Springs to offer the latest preventive screenings.
Prostate cancer screenings may include:
- Digital rectal exam: A physical exam that allows your physician to feel any abnormalities around your prostate.
- Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test: A blood test that detects elevated prostate-specific antigens in your blood, which may suggest prostate cancer is present.
If either of these tests suggest any abnormalities, your primary care provider will recommend further testing or refer you to one of our experienced urologists who specializes in prostate cancer detection and treatment.
The American Cancer Society recommends men and their primary care providers discuss the appropriate timing and type of prostate cancer screening. Talk to your doctor about screening if you are:
- A man over the age of 50 with an average risk of developing prostate cancer
- A man age 45 or older with an above-average risk of developing prostate cancer (family history, race, or medical history)
- A man age 40 or older with a high risk of developing prostate cancer (family history, race, or medical history)
Your urological specialist at AdventHealth Altamonte Springs can help you identify your risk factors and understand if you are at an increased risk of developing prostate cancer.
Urology Services We Offer
-
Aquablation
A robotic-assisted and minimally invasive surgical procedure to provide long-lasting relief from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate
-
Complex Adult and Pediatric Reconstructive Urology
A multidisciplinary program in the repair and treatment of complex urologic complications and injuries that are the result of cancer surgery and treatments, surgical misadventures, radiation therapy, and urologic trauma
-
Minimally Invasive Laparoscopic Surgery
A specialized technique that uses tiny instruments and cameras — guided through very small incisions — to operate or perform diagnostic procedures
-
Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery is usually associated with minimally invasive surgery — procedures performed through tiny incisions. It is also sometimes used in certain traditional open surgical procedures
-
Nephrectomy
The surgical removal of a kidney
-
Penile Implant
Men for whom other treatments for erectile dysfunction have failed and those who suffer from severe Peyronie’s disease may decide to have surgery in which a penile implant is placed in order to restore their sexual function
-
Robotic Kidney Surgery
A leading-edge procedure, robotic kidney surgery provides patients an alternate surgical procedure that reduces pain, recovery time and risks. Robotic kidney surgery, also called a robotic nephrectomy or robotic partial nephrectomy, is a common treatment for kidney cancer and other conditions affecting the kidney
-
Urologic Oncology
Thousands of men and women are diagnosed each year with cancer of the prostate, bladder or kidney, as well as testicular cancer
-
Vasectomy (Male Sterilization)
A vasectomy is an approximately 30-minute outpatient procedure in which the tubes that carry sperm from the testes are cut and blocked for purposes of contraception
-
Vasectomy Reversal
Vasectomy reversal can be accomplished via one of two surgical procedures. The first is called vasovasostomy, and involves reconnecting the two ends of the severed vas deferens (the tube that carries sperm). The second is called vasoepididymostomy and involves connecting the vas deferens directly to the epididymis, which is the coiled tube at the back of each testicle
-
Zoladex® Depot Insertions
Zoladex® injection therapy is primarily used to treat prostate cancer in men and to manage endometriosis in women.
