Digital mammography procedures provide precision imaging of the breasts, helping us detect and examine changes to catch breast cancer at its earliest stages. At our hospital, you’ll find an advanced GE Healthcare Senographe Essential Digital Mammography system, which produces clear digital images within 10 seconds of your screening. It also uses a computer-aided detection system to be sure of your diagnosis. An annual preventive screening is recommended if you’re over 40, and your care team might also recommend a mammogram if you experience symptoms like a lump on your breast.

Stereotactic breast biopsies use mammography technology and a needle to take a precise sample of your breast tissues for testing. To help us provide a more-accurate diagnosis, your radiologist may recommend this procedure if your mammogram shows possible signs of breast cancer. The results are often benign (noncancerous), but you want to be sure, and so do we.

Coming in for a scan or test can sometimes make you nervous. We’re here to help calm your mind and make your visit as easy and relaxing as possible. Before your test, we’ll discuss your medical history, ask about any allergies, and even ask whether or not you have claustrophobia — all so we can minimize your stress and provide you with the smoothest experience possible.

Your test will probably take around 30 minutes to an hour. Before beginning your exam, we may ask you to remove any metal jewelry and electronic devices, and to change into a gown or scrubs. If you’re receiving a nuclear medicine test, you’ll need to drink a special liquid called a radiotracer, which will give us a clearer look inside your body.

Your team will talk you through each step, providing information and guidance and making you as comfortable as possible throughout. If you’re receiving an MRI, we’ll provide you with ear protection, as the scanner can be quite loud. You can rest easy knowing all of our imaging tests are either non-invasive or minimally invasive. That means you probably won’t need any downtime afterward.
