We'll tend to your needs quickly at each location. After asking for basic information, we’ll take your vital signs. Then, we’ll decide how best to care for you.We prioritize your care through a process known as triage. At times, this means we’ll treat a person with a suspected stroke as soon as they arrive, before someone with a less serious condition. We always strive to keep our emergency wait times as short as possible.
Being prepared can make all the difference in an emergency. Consider keeping an information card with you at all times. Include the contact information for your primary care doctor and a list of your medications, drug allergies and advance directives (like health care proxy or do-not-resuscitate orders).
- Our Critical Care Unit
-
The intensive care unit (ICU) at AdventHealth Ocala is a five-time recipient of the Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care, recognizing our commitment to:
- Appropriate staffing and staff engagement
- Effective communication, knowledge management and learning development
- Evidence-based practice and processes
- Leadership structures and systems
- Outcome measurements
We provide local access to lifesaving services such as:
A staff of physician intensivists: This team is trained and experienced in critical care medicine. Our skilled intensivists work together with team members in nursing, therapy and case management, supported by advanced technology, to provide our award-winning intensive care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT): This is designed to replace kidney function. In CRRT, blood is continuously purified and recycled into the body. It’s considered gentler than traditional dialysis, making it a better option for those with renal failure.
Therapeutic hypothermia: This is a modern treatment for those with cardiac arrest who have remained comatose. The body temperature is lowered by several degrees for at least 24 hours to help preserve brain function.
Vascular interventional radiology: This advanced software imaging produces three-dimensional vascular images. This system can perform computed tomography (CT or CAT scans) during procedures to guide physicians.

Specialized OB Emergency Services
A health emergency during pregnancy requires a special level of care. That’s why we have an obstetric emergency department (OBED) equipped to treat expectant moms and their babies. The OBED is an extension of our main emergency room and is staffed with experienced OB hospitalists who are specialists in obstetric medicine.
The OBED treats pregnancy- and postpartum-related concerns like abdominal pain, preterm labor, preeclampsia, abnormal vaginal bleeding, ruptured membranes, labor checks, bladder infections, decreased fetal movement and increased blood pressure. It offers pregnant women immediate access to a physician at all hours. We hope you and your baby never need emergency care — but find peace of mind knowing we’re ready around the clock.
