According to Maureen Brown, her weight loss journey, which began years ago with a sleeve gastrectomy, continued with an appointment with Melissa Bagloo, MD, FACS, FASMBS, for evaluating severe gastric reflux and a hiatal hernia. “My life had become very difficult, and it was hard to enjoy the things that matter. Enjoying time with my grandchildren, traveling, shopping, sleeping and many other things were just so difficult,” she explains.
In 2009, Maureen had a sleeve gastrectomy but developed reflux over the following years. She underwent a bariatric surgery revision in 2024 with Dr. Bagloo at AdventHealth, which was a glowing success. “I now enjoy all these things just like I did 20 years ago,” says Maureen.

What bariatric procedure did you have?
On February 8, 2024, I had a sleeve to gastric bypass roux-en-y revision robot-assisted laparoscopic XL surgery. My life has improved since this surgery.
What tips would you offer to prospective bariatric surgery patients?
My number one tip for anyone having this surgery is to know what you want from it and not to be afraid. At 71 years old, I was scared. I worried about recovery time and how I would feel after my operation.
The biggest challenges I’ve faced since the surgery have been slowing down when I eat, taking smaller bites, watching the moisture content of my food and knowing when to stop eating so I don’t cause pain or vomiting.
How have your friends and family reacted to your transformation?
I told my friends that Dr. Bagloo is the best surgeon and that my care at AdventHealth, both in and out of the hospital, was a wonderful experience. My husband is also impressed with Dr. Bagloo and the care provided at AdventHealth.
